03.04.17 – Session in Praha – Denisa
Hello Denisa, tell us about yourself. Where do you come from?
Hello, my name is Denisa and I am 22 years old student. I was rised in Slavkov u Brna. My mother is Czech and my father is from the Slovak city Banská Bystrica.
How do you feel being Czech when you are abroad?
Well, we are a small country famous for ice hockey and football. Sometimes I noticed that some people don´t really know about Czech Republic and where it is situated.
On the other hand, when I say I come from Prag people immediately react and say they woud like to visit some day. It seems to me that our capital city is more popular than the name of our country.
Some Czech personality that you admire?
I have to mention Vaclav Havel, who was our president from 1993 to 2003. He took power after Velvet revolution, He was a big protagonist of democracy and made a lots of good things for our country. For Czech people in general he is a kind of national hero. For example when we walked into Prague today we saw the caricature of him painted on the wall. People bring him candles and flowers.
And of course our famous painter Alfons Mucha, who painted mostly women surrounded with flowers. He is probably the most well known painter from our country. We are very proud of him.
What about Czech food?
I should name „Knedlo vepro zelo“. Exactly it is a roast pork with cabbage and dumplings. A dumpling is something like a bread, but it is softer, made from white flour and it is fat and tasty, so foreigners usually like it a lot. The other traditional dish is „Svickova“, which is served also with dumplings, but insted of cabbage there is a vegetable sauce with cream and a piece of meat. Plus, as I have heart in other countries it is not usuall, in Czech we have also a sweet meals as a main dish. For example those can be dumplings filled with fruits …
Your opinion about Czech language?
I love the language because I like slavic languages. If I compare it with other slavic languages, it is kind of hard. After comparing with Slovak language, in which I can talk as well, Czech language is really hard, Slovak is kind of nicer and more pleasant for the ears. It must be definitevely hard to learn. Foreigners sound funny talking in Czech.
Your opinion about the EU?
I like the idea of european integration and that the economics of the various countries are connected.
It is great to keep the economic cooperation and dont act isolated.
Though, it would be nice that Czech Republic keeps its Czech crown.
We see in Slovakia, after they adopt Euro currency prices are rising. And the country can not use regulations of currency and fiscal politics to their own advantage.
